Some 2.4 million illegal and potentially harmful medicines worth
$6.3 million (Sh643 million) have been seized in a week-long internet
crackdown.
Operation Pangea IV was conducted in 81 countries, including Kenya, in the week ending Tuesday.
A
statement from Interpol, which was involved in the operation, said on
Thursday that they targeted sale of counterfeit and illegal medicines on
internet. Dozens of arrests have been made, Interpol says.
The statement came out the same day the Nation alerted the public of the presence of substandard HIV medicines in the local market. (READ: Beware: Fake HIV drugs on sale)
According
to the head of Kenya’s Pharmacy and Poisons Board, Dr Kipkerich Koskei,
Interpol has been helping with the international aspects of the
falsified HIV medicines. Read More
