Downloads on “Infinity” packages that rely on Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC)
technology will be boosted from 40Mbps to 80 Mbps in 2012, the national
telco said today.
The announcement comes after BT received approval to change the frequency it
uses to transmit broadband signals.
In reality however, customers will not receive 80Mbps, as they do not receive
40Mbps currently, due to a range of factors including interference.
According to Ofcom, the typical downstream speed on a current Infinity
package is between 30.5 and 33.1Mbps. Read More
