Ed Miliband's landmark speech to the Labour conference was dealt a massive blow today when the live link went down just seconds into his address to the nation.
As technicians desperately tried to find out what had caused the blackout, some wags joked that perhaps it was his brother David getting his revenge for losing the leadership battle last year.
After a two-minute opening during which he rattled off five jokes, the Labour leader declared to delegates gathered in Liverpool he was going to 'get down to business' - but almost immediately the screens went blank, and those watching BBC and Sky were cut off from the speech for five minutes.
Meanwhile, inside the hall, Ed Miliband said he was 'up for the fight' to change Britain as he outlined plans to reward good behaviour from companies and those on welfare.
And in a phrase designed to win the favour of delegates, he attacked the rich by saying Labour would 'challenge irresponsible, predatory practices wherever we find them.' Read More
